* ..*.. * FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS What to expect from the Shiatsu Emocional course? SHEM - Simplicity and depth. We seek to speak freely of emotional issues and how we can balance the human being through the body; we experience these issues by learning the meridians’ psychosomatics. The student can expect to find a master that offers him his whole attention, a rich and detailed handbook, and permanent support to solve general doubts. Through the theories and practices, the student can expect to use emotional Shiatsu in professional and personal situations. The student should not expect: pomposity, convoluted language, incomprehensible theories. As a teacher, my major objectives for my students are: 1. To leave the course as a better person; What theories do I need to know to be a good Shiatsu Practitioner? SHEM - Almost all Shiatsu styles are based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine view. That has many roots, joining acumuled knowledge throughout the times by several peoples who have originated the Chinese people. In the therapeutic scenario, we now have two big streams of Shiatsu: one focuses on theories directly related to the body’s anatomy and physiology. The idea is to “scientificize” traditional concepts, proving its efficacy. The other stream focuses on the essence of the individual. Its main concern is the promotion of health, and not the healing of diseases. It gives special attention to the therapist-patient relationship as a means to rescue the essence of human life, just as it happens in the ancient Eastern traditions, preserved in Taoism, Zen art, etc. A good Shiatsu therapist can associate both streams or navigate only one of them, which is not common, but possible. Irrespective of this, every Shiatsu therapist has the Tao as his highest parameter to analyze all things. Its unfoldings are also a common feature of the knowledge required by the Shiatsu therapist (Five Elements or Five Movements Theory, Meridians, Zang-Fu). What are the differences between the many Shiatsu styles? SHEM – Every person has his own way of doing things. So when someone teaches Shiatsu to another person, he is actually teaching according to his own way – in his own style. Some Shiatsu styles end up by developing features that are entirely new and become very popular. Such popularity comes both from the master’s ability and from the theories and techniques he chooses to use from among a vast and continually renewed repertoire. The main difference from one style to another is in the focus of the treatment. Anyway, there may be strong differences in their practices, in how diagnosis is made, in the treatment itself, etc. However, we cannot say one style is better than the other. All we can say is that they have different focuses. Nowadays, the phenomenon of marketing spreads the different styles and techniques. In fact, most styles known in Brazil have become very popular because of the USA, which uses marketing to propagate ideas as no other country (which does not belittle any style). How long does it take to become a well-prepared professional Shiatsu therapist? SHEM – In Shiatsu, the real training takes place throughout life. It never ends. The Shiatsu therapist learns in good courses that his technique is also a philosophy of life. Nonetheless, we have the training courses, where time varies according to its workload. Technical courses with certificates acknowledged by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Brazil) have around 600 teaching hours. Training courses in specific styles are usually taught in modules and the number of teaching hours is smaller. Generally it is a free-course certificate and its validity is linked to the backing of the professional giving the course or the institution to which he is associated. Nonetheless, Shiatsu is not a profession regulated by Law and the fact that the Ministry of Education and Culture acknowledges the course does not mean there are parameters in Brazil defining how the therapist should work. What is the best Shiatsu Course? SHEM – It is impossible to give a precise answer. There are theories and affinities. Basically a good course is that which you find to have the best environment that motivates you to learn always more. Its masters not only know the subject but also know – and like – to teach it. It focuses not only on its exams, but on the qualitative assessment of students, preparing them not only to be good practitioners, but better human beings, thus approaching them to the Tao. I am a psychologist. How can I work with Emotional Shiatsu practice in my office? How can it improve my work? SHEM – Shiatsu for emotions is the best way for you to be initiated in the Chinese philosophy and the way it sees the individual. Its techniques to interact with the patient bring concrete results to your treatment. Shiatsu for emotions was designed to be completely compatible with psychological treatments and draws parallels with theories underlying the very psychology. I am already a professional Shiatsu practicioner. Is this course helpful to me? SHEM - If dealing with emotions is essential for you in Shiatsu treatments, then yes. It explores in a very simple way the human aspects, without losing sight of the philosophical underpinnings that guide Shiatsu. Shiatsu for emotions is also a key differentiator for the Shiatsu practitioner. I am a physiotherapist. How can I use the techniques of Shiatsu for Emotions in my practice? What are the advantages? SHEM - Physiotherapists are more and more aware of the straight connection between the physical issues and emotions. Shiatsu for Emotions is a bodywork which also promotes emotional wellness and balance. Its practices aid physiotherapists in all kinds of treatments, from respiratory physiotherapy to the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. I am not from the Health Area. Is this course helpful to me? SHEM - Yes, the basic course is undoubtedly a tool for self-knowledge, and it seeks to connect participants to their own essence. It is easier to say "why am I here?" after the Shiatsu for Emotions course. How does Shiatsu for Emotions work with emotions? SHEM -Without theorizing: Through the simple act of looking. Through simplicity. Through true respect. Through the atmosphere produced in a bodily process based in love. By acknowledging the individual’s emotional patterns, the links between them, and the deep layers of imbalance in each one. From that point on, we perform a bodywork that produces the acknowledgement of the layers so that the individual can change them. |
